March 19 2021 - Your Day of Action

Dear Forest Friends and Allies,

Join communities across the province this year on March 19, 2026 for the annual Forest March BC

You are invited to Forest March BC 2021 day of action!

Our province-wide initiative founded in 2018 by Jennifer Houghton aims to connect communities in British Columbia affected by forestry development operations. Our community organized movement elevates voices across the province that advocate for a holistic approach to forestry policy.

Our message is clear, we are asking local and provincial governments to:

  1. Prioritize ecosystem health, with emphasis on preserving biodiversity
  2. Formally invite front line communities to strategic planning on resource allocation and the management of public land
  3. Prohibit private corporations from having absolute authority over public land

We call upon BC Premier John Horgan to honour his commitment to the full recommendations of the Old Growth Strategic Review Panel. We also call upon the Minister of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development  Katrine Conroy, MLA Cullen and MLA Russell to uphold their mandates.

On March 19 2021, we will:

  • Call & write to local MLA’s
  • Participate in COVID safe direct action community marches with fellow forest defenders (Please read the IMPORTANT NOTICE at the bottom of this page)
  • TREE POSE CHALLENGE! Strike a pose beside your favourite tree and share it on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter and tag us!

Inspired to take the lead? Contact us with your proposed direct action at [email protected] to receive a media press release.

Showcase your community efforts! Send us your photos, videos, poems, letters to be featured on our website

Ask us to provide you with MLA letter templates! OR DOWNLOAD THE PDF of this letter to print and share.

Get a photo of you and your favourite tree, shrub, or house plant, (whatever is close at hand); you can stand, sit, do a yoga pose, (whatever is comfortable for you), and share on

IMPORTANT NOTICE

When and where physical actions are allowed, we will be respecting all health measures and orders. We ask everyone planning to attend a local activity to bring a mask with them while respecting social distancing regulations.

Walk or roll outdoors by yourself or in your own small group. Carry signs that support the goals of Forest March BC. Take photos!

Do NOT invite large numbers of people to meet at a certain start point or stop at a certain end point because that will inevitably result in gathering, which risks COVID-19 transmission and is in violation of current COVID restrictions. (A 10-person outdoor gathering is okay now.) Wear a mask. Stay two meters apart.

Have fun. Get some fresh air and exercise. Support a good cause.

Please DO NOT ATTEND if you:

  • Are feeling ill
  • Have been in contact with someone who is suspected of having COVID-19
  • Have been outside of Canada within the last 14 days.
