Sign Making in the Sun in Grand Forks
Grand Forks Forest March April 6th, 2019
West Kootenays Forest March BC, APRIL 6, 2026
Powerful statement from one of the march organizers, Kai Cabodyna:
People of the West Kootenay’s gathered today for the BC Forest March to stand in solidarity with communities across the province to voice our demand for Forestry Reform and for the BC Government to step up to ACTUAL Climate Responsibility.
Regenerative Forestry practices are a fundamental solution to the planetary climate transitions we are all within - create and profit from robust forest ecologies which enhance the water holding capacity of the soil while ushering down the rain, sequestering carbon all while providing an abundance of opportunities for viable, local livelihoods. It’s the margins for the cushy-corporate structure which would be adversely affected from this type of Resilient Localization. Please bring back the Lumber-Jacks by getting Forestry Professionals out of Feller Bunchers and their boots on the Earth. Harvest what we need from the forests like the Indigenous, with reverence and respect of the 1/3 rule.
When Industry & Government masquerade their marketing strategies of Sustainable Forest Stewardship they fail to account for the Forestry Industry being BC’s largest Green House Gas contributor. When the Government handed over control of what happens in Public Forests to Industry, to Professional Reliance, our society cinched the noose on the anti-rational “business-as-usual” paradigm. If policy-makers do not heed the irrefutable evidence on the table and act by severing the control mechanism entrenching the outdated, inappropriate Forestry status-quo by fully retrofitting Forestry policy with regenerative principals, it will TRULY fall into the hands of the people & children to lobby with more rationality then Industry ever could.
To evolve as a species, as a culture, regenerative lifestyles and livelihoods must To evolve as a species, as a culture, regenerative lifestyles and livelihoods must A) become adopted en-masse by intentionally exiting the scarcity-consumer-capitalist paradigm and B) become mirrored and supported in societies policies. ~ Kai Cabodyna

Youbou Forest March, APRIL 6, 2026

It’s so important for groups such as ours to see that we’re not alone.
Youbou Forest March organizer: The rain couldn’t stop the small but mighty band of Save Our Holmes members who marched for BC forests yesterday! We came back for burritos and Mexican fried ice cream. And hot tea and coffee…we were soaked! It’s so important for groups such as ours to see that we’re not alone.

Port Alberni, BC Forest March APRIL 6, 2026
From the Port Alberni, Forest March organizer: We gathered at 10 am at the South Island District Forest Office, heard an overview of the province-march and local “stuff”, shared a song from the SOVA songbook (thanks to Gillian Shearwater), and
walked to MLA Scott Fraser’s office, where I read a statement from him and several people spoke impromptu, we sang again, and collected a list of folks
wanting to assist the local Watershed-Forest Alliance to awaken from its nap and get working again.
50-55 people came despite the rain, and there was a good “vibe”; lots of energy. Both old and new faces in the crowd.
Scott Fraser’s assistant took notes and wrote down the text of all the signs/posters to give to him. She suggested a meeting of Scott with a few key people. We will do that.
The local paper AV News was present for the whole event. An article and an ad had appeared in last week’s paper.
Thanks for spearheading this, Jennifer. We are climbing back on the horse.
With good wishes,
Edna

Winlaw, BC Forest March APRIL 6, 2026

Some of the changes we were protesting for today included more protection for local watersheds. We were also looking for more power for local forest district managers to decide what gets cut and what doesn’t. This is important because they might then decide that logging in an unstable place, like Perry’s Ridge, is no-go. They might also work more closely with our regional district representatives. We were protesting, also, for better fire protection management.
